Environmental Licking County Department of Health

Food Safety Program Licking County Department of Health

Food Protection Program promotes healthy individuals and communities through food service education and regulation. Lake Cumberland District Health Department(LCDHD). Food Safety Program paramedics are supervise for conducting plan reviews, complaint inquiries, and food safety assessments at food service establishments such as restaurants, grocery stores, school kitchens, and caterers to ensure food safety and prevent foodborne illness.

Licking County has over 650 licensed grocery stores, including restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, concession trailers, vending machines, pop-up food sales at events, delicatessens, and grocery stores. Each service has owners, managers and employees who must handle food safely to prevent disease and comply with regulations across states. Our paramedics inspect these facilities twice a year on average and more often if necessary. They also offer training for food professionals.

Private Water Supply Systems

Access to clean water is a critical public health need for communities to prevent waterborne diseases. Private water systems, including wells, cisterns, water storage tanks, and ponds, use for potable water are governament by the Ohio Private Water Systems Regulations (Ohio Administrative Code 3701-28). Before installing or modifying a private water system, a permit must be obtain from the Ministry of Health. Well, logs may also be obtained from the ODNR.

Water Samples

 

The Licking County Health Department collects water samples from new and existing private water systems. After entering the data, our office will contact you to confirm your visit. Please allow one business day for our office to contact you.

We take water samples Monday to Wednesday from 12.00 pm to 4.00 pm and Thursday from 10.00 am to 2.30 pm. Finally, results are usually available within 3-4 business days after sample collection. Some test parameters may take longer. All results will be emailed to you unless otherwise requested.

Sewage Treatment

LCDH approves and inspects public swimming pools, spas, bathing areas and beach areas to ensure the safety and hygiene of these facilities. Pools are tested for chlorine levels or other sanitisers, pH, total alkalinity, cyanuric acid, water clarity, etc. Facilities are also inspect to ensure all equipment is working correctly, necessary safety measures are in place, lifeguards are certified (if required), and there are enough lifeguards on duty.

Summer pools are generally checked every two weeks during the operating season. Indoor pools are checked less frequently but all year round. Consult our pool inspection database.
